Cuban community in Jamaica celebrates Girón victory anniversary

Kingston, Jamaica, 20 April 2022. Members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica "Antonio Maceo Grajales" (ACRJ) participated in the act for the 61st Anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón, held at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica on April 19.

In his speech, professor and historian Osvaldo Cárdenas, acting president of the ACRJ, reviewed the harsh and heroic days of April 1961: the terrorist acts, the bombings, the proclamation of the socialist character of the revolution, the mercenary invasion, the victory of the people and the embarrassing return to the US of the defeated invaders. He highlighted the validity of that battle in the current context of hostility and imperialist aggression against the Cuban revolution.

The event was a propitious occasion for Ambassador Fermín Quiñones, who arrived in Jamaica a few months ago, to meet and exchange with valuable members of the Cuban community residing on this island. The diplomat reiterated to his interlocutors the willingness of the diplomatic mission to support the work of the ACRJ and strengthen ties with our nationals abroad.
