Spanish Town-Kingston, 28 January 2025. Members of the Cuban community residing in Jamaica actively participated in the activities held in homage to the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí, on the occasion of the 172nd anniversary of his birth.
In the morning hours, Nelson Brown, a Spanish teacher at the ‘José Martí’ Technical High School was part of the Organising Committee of the event held at this centre donated by the Cuban people to the brotherly Jamaican people. His students declaimed the poem ‘I grow a white rose’ in Spanish, demonstrating the skills acquired in this language.
In the Jamaican evening, a representation of the Association of Cubans Residing in Jamaica ‘Antonio Maceo’, including children and young people, gathered at the Cuban Embassy to pay tribute to the most universal of Cubans. During the exchange, they reiterated their condemnation of the reinclusion of our country in the spurious, unilateral and discredited list of States that supposedly sponsor terrorism.
Following Marti's maxim: ‘On coming to earth, every man has the right to be educated, and then, in return, the duty to contribute to the education of others’, Dr. Martha Corbeth's work in the Jamaican educational sector and in support of Cuban residents was recognised.
