Cuban Culture Day celebrated in Jamaica

Mandeville, 22 October 2025. The North Caribbean University (NCU) hosted the main event for Cuban Culture Day in Jamaica. The event was presided by the President of the university and the Ambassador of Cuba, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez. Representatives of the state mission, Cuban residents linked to the education sector, as well as professors and students from the NCU and other educational centres in the region were present.

In his remarks to those present, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the influence of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on the cultural policy of the Cuban Revolution. He underlined the achievements of our country in this sphere, despite the harmful impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.

For their part, NCU officials recognised the importance of the initiative as a demonstration of the history and culture shared by both nations and an opportunity for new generations to continue their approach to the Spanish language.

During the event, students and teachers from the NCU and educational centres in the area recited a selection of Versos Sencillos, poems by our national poet Nicolás Guillén, and poems of his own authorship dedicated to Cuban Culture Day.

Those present were also able to enjoy a small exhibition on Cuban art, literature and cuisine.
