Cuban Culture Day is celebrated in Namibia

Namibia, October 20th, 2018- Around 200 guests, including Cuban collaborators, Cuban residents, members of the diplomatic corps, brothers and sisters of the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association and other members of the Namibian civil society participated in the celebrations for the Day of the Cuban Culture, in the 150th anniversary of the composition and intonation for the first time of the National Anthem. Among the attendees stood out the Chief of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga, who is graduated in Cuba and a pillar of solidarity with the island in this African country.

In the event, held at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission, the island's ambassador, Giraldo Mazola, recalled the composition of the country song and the context in which it was made: only ten days after having begun the struggle for the independence of Cuba, led by the Father of the Nation, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.

During his speech, Mazola also condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba and informed those present about the vote against it that will take place at the UN, on October 31.

On the other hand, in the evening also intervened Cecilia Muzile, Secretary General of the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association, also who reiterated the solidarity of the Namibian people with Cuba and the gratitude for Cuban support for the struggle for liberation and after independence of her country. Muzile also announced the upcoming implementation of the National Convention of the solidarity organization, to revitalize its work and reform its structures.

Those present could also enjoy the interpretation of the Namibian-Angolan musician Rovy Mingo, who played traditional Cuban songs such as "Hasta Siempre Comandante" and "Guantanamera"

The evening also included typical elements of our culture, such as our traditional food, our cocktail bar and our dances.
