KINGSTON, October 23, 2026 – With the aim of highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties that unite the region, a special Hispanic Heritage Day was held on the campus of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) in Jamaica, where Cuban culture took center stage in the program.
The cultural and academic event provided an ideal space for dialogue and reflection on the Hispanic legacy in the Caribbean. As the keynote component of the activity, Cuba’s Ambassador to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, delivered a detailed presentation covering the fundamental pillars of the identity of the largest island in the Caribbean. Her presentation highlighted the richness of Cuban literature, the most universal expressions of its music and dance, as well as the uniqueness of its cultural syncretism and historical heritage.
Representatives of the Cuban Education Brigade demonstrated, through practical cultural examples, the teaching of the Spanish language and showcased the results achieved by students. These presentations allowed attendees to gain a deeper understanding of Cuban identity, Hispanic heritage, and their connections with Jamaican culture.
The event attracted significant participation and was attended by senior NCU officials, led by Dr. Balvin B. Braham, President of the renowned institution of higher learning. Dr. Braham emphasized the importance of promoting diversity, linguistic integration, and knowledge of Caribbean history within the university community.
