Following an invitation made by the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Honorable Mia Amor Mottley, to Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, a Cuban delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, attended the First African-Caribbean Forum of Trade and Investment 2022, held in Barbados on September 1 and 2. Other members of the delegation were the Director of Trade Policy of MINCEX, Janet Fernández, the Director of Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gustavo Véliz, and the Ambassador of Cuba in Barbados, Sergio Jorge Pastrana.
Minister Malmierca spoke on the Panel of Heads of Government and their representatives, together with ministers from Saint Kitts and Nevis, British Virgin Islands, Ghana, Martinique, Rwanda and Saint Lucia.
Within the framework of the event, the delegation held bilateral contacts with leaders from other countries in the region, including the President of the Republic of Suriname and President Pro Tempore of CARICOM, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, and the Director General of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Didacus Jules.
