Cuban delegation denounces the impact of the blockade at the start of the 30th Session of the Council of the International Seabed Authority

Kingston, 17 March 2025. The Cuban delegation attending the First Part of the 30th Session of the Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) denounced the negative impact of the tightening of the blockade, describing it as archaic and immoral. In his remarks, the Permanent Representative of Cuba, Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, exposed the effects of this genocidal policy and the unjustified inclusion of our country in the unilateral and illegal list of states that supposedly sponsor terrorism, which deprive the Cuban people of free access to resources for the full development of our economy, scientific research, the benefits of advances in science and technology, free trade with other nations and notably affect the most elementary rights of our citizens and of third countries.

During his intervention, the Cuban diplomat reiterated his congratulations to Mrs. Leticia Reis de Carvalho, the first Latin American and Caribbean woman scientist to hold the position of Secretary General of the International Seabed Authority.

The ISAF Council has been in session since 17 March and will conclude its work on 28 March.
