Paris, 10 July 2025. Within the framework of the 47th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, representatives of the Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO took part in a workshop with focal points of the “Capacity Development on Climate Action for World Heritage” project, an initiative funded by the Government of the Netherlands.
The meeting presented the progress of the project’s second phase, aimed at implementing tools developed in the first stage to integrate climate change management into World Heritage site management plans. The new phase, expected to last about eighteen months, foresees the identification of one pilot site per region, with particular focus on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
In this context, Cuba was considered within the Latin America and the Caribbean region for the potential application of these tools, alongside other countries to be defined at later stages.
Cuba’s participation in this exchange reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to mainstream climate mitigation and adaptation approaches into heritage management, in line with its commitments under the 1972 Convention and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
