The Cuban delegation participates in the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the international mechanism of independent experts to promote justice and racial equality in the application of the law. 57TH HRC

Mr. President,

We welcome the High Commissioner and the experts and take note of their presentation.

We regret that the report contains information which has nothing to do with Cuban reality and which is incompatible with the overall legislative transformations achieved in the country, as well as with the results of the implementation of the national programme to combat racism and racial discrimination.

We draw attention to the need to verify information and its sources as part of the reporting process.

Mr. President,

The Cuban revolution has demolished the structural bases of racism and institutionalised racial discrimination has been eliminated.

The Cuban Constitution recognises that all people are equal before the law, receive equal protection from the authorities and enjoy the same rights, freedoms and opportunities, without discrimination.

In 2022, a new family code was adopted, which recognises the different forms of family organisation, extends the rights of LGBTIQ+ people and strengthens gender equality in the family space.

We conclude by calling on the Council and its mechanisms to condemn more strongly each time that, in certain countries, people of African descent are killed extrajudicially by the forces of law and order or imprisoned and sentenced disproportionately, solely because of the colour of their skin.

Thank you for your attention.
