A Cuban delegation participates in meeting on Plastic Pollution

A delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), led by its Director of International Relations, Lisbet Font Vila, participated in the first Informal In-person Meeting of Heads of Delegation to the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution convened from 30 June to 3 July 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting will be preceded by regional consultations on 29 June 2026.

The meeting was part of a series of activities and meetings for the work of the Committee in the lead up to the fourth part of its fifth session (INC-5.4). INC-5.4 which is expected to take place at the end of 2026 or in early 2027.

The informal meeting will include both joint sessions and breakout groups. According to the INC Chair, since the Committee does not have a single draft text to work on, the Nairobi meeting will provide “an opportunity to complete a review of all the components in the negotiations”. This working document will aim to reflect the level of progress, outlining clear options but without yet suggesting possible solutions, new ideas, or bridging proposals, according to the Chair’s letter.
