The first activity carried out today by the Cuban delegation participating in CARIFESTA 2025 was a visit to the Monument to the Martyrs of Barbados, victims of the terrorist attack perpetrated against the Cubana de Aviación plane, which exploded in mid-flight on October 6, 1976. This horrendous crime is not only etched in the memory of all Cubans, who commemorate this date each year with acts of repudiation and condemnation of terrorism, but also had a profound impact on the Barbadian people, which is why they have declared October 6 the Cuba-CARICOM International Day Against Terrorism.
Our delegation of artists and representatives of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, accompanied by officials from the Cuban Embassy in Barbados, paid tribute to the martyrs with a minute of silence after singing the notes of our National Anthem. With the heartfelt and forceful words spoken by Lizzet Martínez Luzardo, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Yanet Stable Cárdenas, Cuban Ambassador to Barbados, all those present reaffirm our condemnation of the U.S. blockade against the Cuban people and our demand that Cuba be removed from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
