Mr. President,
Mr. High Commissioner,
During the adoption of the resolution mandating this dialogue, Cuba rejected the use of human rights mechanisms for the purposes of interference, internal subversion and disregard for the role of national institutions. Cuba also warned of the dangers of bringing the Human Rights Council into total discredit and rendering it ineffective.
The sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has demonstrated time and again its willingness to engage in dialogue and cooperation, on the basis of respect for its sovereignty. In this regard, we recognise the cooperation actions undertaken with the Office of the High Commissioner. This is a sign of political will that the human rights machinery should strive to preserve.
In the face of interference and confrontation, the peoples will respond resolutely in defence of their sovereignty and their right to preserve their achievements.
Mr. President,
Cuba reiterates its unwavering support for the people of Venezuela and the government of the democratically and constitutionally elected President Nicolás Maduro Moros.
Cuba denounces the continued and intensified enforcement of unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela, as well as their impact on the economic and social situation of the country and on the realisation of human rights.
Thank you.
