Mr. President,
Mr. High Commissioner,
Cuba opposed the politicised resolutions that have led to this and other intrusive dialogues, which merely underscore the double standards and selectivity that characterize the approach to human rights.
The punitive mechanisms imposed against the will of the concerned country are not only ineffective and undermine the work of the Council, but they are also the antithesis of dialogue, cooperation, and respect.
This exercise is even more ineffective and intrusive, considering that just a few weeks ago Nicaragua constructively engaged in its Universal Periodic Review, showing its commitment to progress in line with its national priorities and challenges. This mechanism, which respects sovereignty, should prevail.
Mr. President,
Cuba's support for the efforts of the Sandinista government and the people of Nicaragua in favour of sustainable development, peace, and justice is unwavering.
We urge the Office of the High Commissioner to document and denounce the impact of the arbitrarily and illegally imposed unilateral coercive measures against Nicaragua, and to continue exploring mechanisms to enhance genuine, non-intrusive, and mutually beneficial cooperation with Nicaragua, based on consent, respect, and cooperation.
Thank you.
