Cuban diplomat attends a Conference on Economics at the UWI

Representing the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, Counselor Ricardo Calvo attended the conference sponsored by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) to pay homage to the distinguished, Nobel Prize winner, Caribbean economist.

Kingston, Jamaica, 23 January 2020. Representing the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, Counselor Ricardo Calvo attended the conference sponsored by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) to pay homage to the distinguished, Nobel Prize winner, Caribbean economist on the occasion of the 105 anniversary of his birth.

This year the special guest was Dr. Justin Ram, Director of Economics at the Caribbean Development Bank, who gave a lecture entitled 'The Equal Opportunity and Competitiveness Nexus: Why This Matters for Inclusive Development.' 

The Cuban diplomat took advantage of the occasion to exchange with attendees and extend invitations to Dr. Ram; Ambassador The Honourable Richard Bernal, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Affairs at the UWI, and Professor Aldrie Henry-Lee, University Director of SALISES, to attend the official reception held to commemorate the 61st Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
