This Saturday, 140 members of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disasters and Serious Epidemics left for Jamaica to join this country’s fight against SARS-CoV-2 virus.

During the ceremony of the brigade’s registration, which took place at the Central Unit for Medical Cooperation (UCCM) in the morning, Dr. Eduardo Ropero Poveda, Coordinator of the brigade, stressed that helping this sister Caribbean nation is a commitment and a legitimate pride; it is a humble tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, father of the Cuban medical collaboration.

Its members also conveyed to the First Secretary of the Party, General of the Army Raúl Castro Ruz, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the irrevocable disposition to fulfill their mission, reports the ACN.

On behalf of the group, a part of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disasters and Serious Epidemics, Ropero Poveda ratified their commitment with the Homeland to face this pandemic along with Jamaican healthcare professionals and other Cuban comrades now working there.

He specified that 78 of the doctors and nurses have fulfilled previous missions and have more than 20 years of experience in the profession. The group includes 97 women and is made up by doctors and nurses coming from all Cuban provinces and the special municipality of the Isle of the Youth.

‘Those of us who leave today are not slaves, we travel voluntarily to give our solidarity aid, to heal those who need it anywhere in the world,’ he affirmed.

The ceremony was attended by Doctor of Science Marcia Cobas, Vice-minister in the Ministry of Public Health, and Jorge Juan Delgado Bustillo, Director of the UCCM.
