Cuban Educators make a presentation on “Yes I can” at an event in Saint Lucia

Cuban Collaborators from the field of Education who are working in Saint Lucia participated in a National Symposium on Competitiveness through Research and Innovation, held last week on this Caribbean island.At the event, the exhibition of the Doctor in Pedagogical Sciences Jorge Tamayo stood out; who presented a research paper and the poster on the implementation and social impact of the Cuban Literacy Program "Yo si puedo" (“Yes I can”) in this country. The specialist from the Ministry of Education, Daimarelys Verdecia, participated together with him. The presentation of the Cuban specialists was greeted with a warm round of applause from those present, who were interested to know about the particularities of the program "Yes I can" and its application.

The Ministries of Education of Cuba and of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development of Saint Lucia, began to develop the aforementioned Cuban literacy program this year as part of a pilot program in different locations of the country. The implementation of this Program has led to the literacy of a significant group of adults in the communities of Canaries and Micoud, contributing to their social development. This first phase is expected to be completed by this December.
