Cuban Embassy celebrates Cuban Culture Day

Cuban Embassy celebrates Cuban Culture Day.

Kingston, 20 October 2022. Members of the Cuban state mission in Jamaica, Cuban residents, Jamaican friends and other nationalities that make up the solidarity movement with Cuba met at the Embassy on the afternoon of 20 October to celebrate Cuban Culture Day.

Art was the protagonist of the day. The glorious notes of the National Anthem were sung as the Bayamese did 154 years ago. The contributions of the son as a poetic form were recalled through the poem "Guitarra" by Nicolás Guillén; as well as the orality and spontaneity of the décimas of Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo, el Cucalambé. In addition, the influence of rhythms such as the mambo and the chachachá in salsa, as a sign of identity, was highlighted.

Second Secretary Rolando Dávila Gallardo, in his words to those present, highlighted the work carried out by the Revolution and by our Commander in Chief in favour of the development of cultural institutions. He denounced the impact on this sector of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade. He reaffirmed that culture will continue to be "the shield and sword of the nation".
