Jakarta: Cuban Ambassador Nirsia Castro denounced the policy of economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US on Cuba and reiterated the will of the Cuban people to stand strong without renouncing to any of their principles. Cuba will not cease in its claims for the lifting and total elimination of the criminal policy. The Ambassador announced that this November 1st, 2017, the Cuban government will denounce the resurgence of this policy under the Trumph administration and will present, once again, before the General Assembly of the United Nations, the draft resolution entitled "Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States against Cuba. "
When asked by journalists about the impact of the US sanctions policy with respect to Cuban – Indonesian bilateral relations, the Ambassador replied that for the moment the damage is commercial and indirect, in the sense that it discourages Indonesian companies, banks and potential investors from establishing themselves in the Cuban market. The diplomat also took the opportunity to thank the Indonesian authorities for the sustained support with regard to the resolution demanding the lifting of the blockade presented at the UN General Assembly for the twenty-sixth time.
The reinforcement of the policy of the blockade announced by President Trump disdains domestic opinion in the US, where more than 70 percent of Americans favor the development of economic-commercial ties and cooperation between the two peoples, and the position of 191 states of the 193 member states of the United Nations Organization that have voted consecutively since 1992 for the lifting of said sanctions policy, said the ambassador.
