Vientiane, January 20, 2026. The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in this capital paid posthumous tribute to the 32 Cuban combatant heroes who fell in Venezuela following the treacherous US attack. For them and their memory, the head of the Mission, Enna Viant, requested a minute of silence during the moving ceremony.
The Cuban Ambassador referred to the implications of this unprecedented criminal act and the unpunished violation of the sovereignty of the Venezuelan nation, contrary to the principles and rights enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the illegal kidnapping of its constitutionally elected president. The dignity and courage with which the Cubans fought, ultimately giving their lives in unequal combat in fulfillment of their duty and mission to protect the life of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, were also extolled.
Those present were alerted to the grave threats looming over the international community, given the declared hegemonic intentions and warmongering doctrines that seek to reinstate the Monroe Doctrine and impose peace by force, jeopardizing the Declaration of Latin America as a Zone of Peace with direct consequences for regional and global stability. The ambassador affirmed that, faced with the serious and direct threats looming over Cuba, unity is strengthened as a strategic weapon, convinced that its people confront each challenge with dignity and commitment.
She asserted that today more than ever, Cuba will continue to be an example of resistance and solidarity. She also evoked the spirit, action, and steadfastness of Antonio Maceo, of National Hero José Martí on his 173rd anniversary, and of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on his centennial, as well as the Cuban people's tradition of struggle.
Finally, the diplomat recalled with immense respect and honor the actions of the 32 brave sons of the indomitable island, who are the pride of their homeland, and reaffirmed the commitment to continue fighting until victory. Present were the Vice President of the Lao National Assembly and President of the Lao-Cuba Friendship Association, representatives of the Party, institutions, representatives of cooperation with Cuba, and members of the Friendship Association between the two countries.
Eternal Honor and Glory.
