The Cuban Embassy in the Netherlands pays tribute to Commander Fidel Castro on the 99th anniversary of his birth.

The Hague, August 13, 2025. On the 99th anniversary of the birth of the Commander in Chief, the staff of the Cuban Embassy in the Netherlands gathered to pay him a heartfelt tribute.

The political and cultural event was opened by the Cuban Ambassador, Eva Yelina Silva Walker, who referred to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution as a man of thought and action, whose legacy is a source of inspiration and encouragement for present and future generations of Cubans.

“His firm determination to face the most complex scenarios with wisdom, to encourage and defend unity and solidarity in the face of adversity, as well as his attachment to Martí's ideology, his sense of justice, peace, and humanity, make Fidel a man of universal stature,” she said.

Afterwards, a tree was planted: an oak tree representing the integrity and strength of our commander's ideas. The tree was planted by a Cuban child and a young Cuban, the new pines of our Revolution.

Venezuelan ambassadors Rocío del Valle Maneiro and Héctor Constant were present at the event and also paid tribute to the soldier of ideas. They referred to the importance of Fidel's thinking for Venezuela and its revolutionary process and shared anecdotes of experiences they had with the Commander.

As Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, said on his X account: “This August 13 marks the beginning of the celebration of the first 100 years with Fidel.”

This is therefore the first of many activities that the Cuban diplomatic mission will carry out as part of the program commemorating the centenary of the Cuban revolutionary's birth.

The activities will be carried out to pay tribute to such an important figure and to guarantee the continuity of the work of the Revolution. We must follow his example with unity, preserving the achievements of the Revolution and facing every challenge that comes with being irreverent to the empire. Today, the Cuban embassy in The Hague reaffirms the popular response of that November 25, 2016, with the shout of “I am Fidel.”
