Wageningen, May 14, 2025. The Cuban ambassador, Eva Yelina Silva Walker, along with representatives of the Embassy, visited Wageningen University.
They were received by the member of the Executive Board of Directors, Rens Buchwalt and teachers and researchers who develop research or cooperation projects in Cuba.
They talked about the development of agroecology in Cuba, the possibility of promoting academic exchange in areas of common interest such as the development of sustainable agriculture or the addressin
of challenges imposed by climatic change in this sector.
During the wide exchange, the Caribbean diplomat explained the complexities facing by Cuban economy from the unfair and illegal economic, commercial and financial block imposed by the US government. She also presented the difficulties in accessing funds to acquire inputs and fuels, fertilizers, pesticides, animal food, machinery and equipment.
Ambassador Silva Walker updated her interlocutors about the institutions of research and scientific development in Cuba, as well as on the strengthening of the legal framework, in particular she mentioned the National Plan for Food Sovereignty and Security approved in 2022.
In the other hands, he referred to the existing potentialities for the development and increase of agricultural production, among which he cited to have trained infrastructure and human resources, a legal and institutional framework that encourages food sovereignty, agroecology, urban and family agriculture and local agricultural development.
