Cuban experience in the protection of heritage acknowledged at International Symposium

Kingston, June 1st, 2017.  During May 28th and June 1st, it was celebrated in Kingston, the International Symposium on Heritage and Climate Change in the Caribbean organized by UNESCO, the National Commission of Jamaica, the Ministry of Culture and the Department on Climate Change at the Ministry of Economic Growth of Jamaica.
 
The meeting aimed at following up the implementation of the Action Plan for the Caribbean to the World Heritage 2015-2019, adopted in Havana, in November, 2014, in particular, the su-regional priority 3 related to the effects of climate change. Taking into consideration the experience from ten countries of the Caribbean, including Cuba, it was known the best practices for the management of heritage to prevent the effects from climate change. 
 
At present, Cuba is the Caribbean nation with more sites registered in the list of world heritages of UNESCO and the fifth in LAtin America with a total of 9 sites. 
 
During the inauguration of the symposium, the Minister of Culture of Jamaica acknowledge Cuban experience in the protection and conservation of cultural, natural and material heritage. The Minister highlighted the development achieved by Cuba in the prevention, adaptation and understanding to face situation of natural catastrophes and to fight climate change, that makes the country a regional referral. 
 
The Cuban delegation was led by Ambassador Bernardo Guanche Hernandez, and is was composed by Dr. Vilma Rodríguez Tapanes, official at the National Council for Cultural Heritage of Cuba, and Yahima Esquivel Moynelo,  specialist at the Cuban UNESCO National Commission.
