Manila, April 13 - On April 11, the first edition of the Cuban film week was inaugurated at the film Institute of the University of the Philippines, under the initiative of the solidarity group with Cuba. PHILCUBA (Cultural Society of Friendship Philippines-Cuba)
According to its organizers, the Festival aims to spread knowledge about Cuba from its culture and contribute to adding voices in the Philippines to the solidarity campaign that the organization has carried out for more than 20 years.
The show began with Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's Cuban classic, Memories of Underdevelopment, which positively attracted public attention as demonstrated by the discussion that took place after the exhibition.
The inauguration was presided over by the director of the center, Sari Raissa Dalena, the president of PHILCUBA and former rector of the University of the Philippines, Francisco Nemenzo and the Cuban ambassador in that country, Ibete Fernández Hernández.
During the week, films such as "Hasta cierto punto", "Kangamba", "Roble de olor", "Contigo pan y cebolla", "Conducta" and the documentary "Me dicen Cuba" will be shown. According to the Cuban ambassador, in her inauguration words, the selection reflects the artistic evolution of Cuban cinema and its society, through different periods of Cuba's recent history.
