Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reiterated today his condemnation of the blockade imposed by the United States with the aim of subverting the revolutionary process on the island.
In his Twitter profile, the top representative of Cuban diplomacy affirmed that such inhumane policy of maximum pressure and economic asphyxiation, implemented 63 years ago, ignores the universal clamor for a Cuba without blockade.
He also pointed out that this northern power is failing in its attempt to subjugate a sovereign nation, which is -he pointed out- a bastion of dignity and creative resistance.
Rodriguez attached to his message an excerpt from the Memorandum of the then Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, Lester D. Mallory, which set down in writing the foundations of his policy against Cuba:
"Most Cubans support Castro...the only foreseeable way to detract from his domestic support is through disenchantment and dissatisfaction arising from economic malaise and material hardship..."
And he instructed: "all possible means must be rapidly employed to weaken the economic life of Cuba (...) to reduce its financial resources and real wages, to provoke hunger, desperation and the overthrow of the Government".
This hostile policy against Cuba intensified to unprecedented levels as of 2017, and especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and remains practically unchanged despite the almost unanimous rejection of the international community.
