Kingston, Jamaica, 25 June 2020. Cuba’s Henry Reeve Medical Cooperation Brigade present today in the Turks and Caicos Islands is ready, awaiting completion of quarantine, to help the islands to fight the scourge of Covid-19.

Dr. Alfredo Morán, Head of the group of Cuban healthcare professionals, said they are in excellent health, fulfilling all duties they have been assigned at this stage, before they start dealing with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus SAR- CoV-2.

Dr. Morán confirmed to Prensa Latina that the Cuban healthcare professionals plan to start working on Monday, June 29, and that they are currently being updated on medical protocols through videoconferences.

The physician pointed out that during isolation, before they take on service, all medical professionals deepen their knowledge of the language and keep in permanent contact with local authorities, exchanging medical experiences and all documents and forms required.

Regarding the epidemiological situation they are to face in the islands, the Cuban member of brigade says that after a month without reporting any confirmed Covid-19 cases, two new cases were reported as infected by repatriated nationals.

On June 15, a group of 20 healthcare workers from the largest island in the Antilles arrived in the Turks and Caicos Islands with the purpose of supporting the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic and minimizing its spread.

The Henry Reeve brigade in this British overseas territory is made up of eight doctors, including a chief of brigade, 10 nurses and an administrative assistant. Besides helping the islands to combat Covid-19, they will contribute to deal with other medical conditions suffered by residents.

Cuba and the Turks and Caicos Islands signed a three-month agreement to reinforce the provision of intensive care services, an agreement that could be extended if necessary.
