The Cuban medicine Heberprot-P, intended for the treatment of patients with diabetic foot ulcers in advanced states and at high risk of amputation, was promoted within the framework of the Exhibition and International Forum of Medical Innovations of Azerbaijan held in Baku.

At the meeting of the Island's ambassador, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, with executives of the Russian-Azerbaijani company, R-Pharm LLC, contacts began to explore future collaborations with Cuban companies.

Heberprot-P is administered directly into the ulcerated tissues of the diabetic and is currently registered and used effectively in several nations.

The drug, prepared by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) of Cuba, contains as a pharmaceutical active ingredient the recombinant human epidermal growth factor, a peptide of 53 amino acids that when coupled to its receptor activates anabolic metabolism, promoting synthesis of amino acids and proteins, resulting in cell division.

The product is considered unique and first of its kind, it is administered directly into the ulcerated tissues of the diabetic, generating an accelerated granulation of the lesions.

The Medinex International Exhibition and Forum of Medical Innovations brings together medical professionals and local and international manufacturers and distributors in the Azeri capital.

According to the organizers, the event has 70 companies from 12 countries: Germany, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia and Japan, among others.

The exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Foundation for the Promotion of Exports and Investments of Azerbaijan, the National Confederation of Business Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of this caucasian nation.
