Cuban members of the medical cooperation brigade perform more than 38 thousand consultations in Jamaica

More than 38 thousand consultations stand out today among the efforts of the Cuban Health Mission in Jamaica during the last two months of battle against the novel SAR-CoV-2 coronavirus, causing the Covid-19 disease.

Kingston, Jamaica, 21 May, 2020. More than 38 thousand consultations stand out today among the efforts of the Cuban Health Mission in Jamaica during the last two months of battle against the novel SAR-CoV-2 coronavirus, causing the Covid-19 disease.

Spread around the four regions and 14 parishes of the Jamaican territory, the 433 members of the brigade –including those who arrived with the supporting brigade from the Henry Reeve medical contingent– they have treated 38,817 patients and saved 716 lives.

According to data provided to Prensa Latina by the Cuban Embassy in Kingston, so far, all our healthcare professionals are asymptomatic, including two who are kept in isolation, awaiting the result of the Covid-19 test performed as part of the health protocol established in the Caribbean nation.

In Jamaica, Cuban healthcare professionals assist in the primary and secondary levels of care for cases positive for Covid-19, suspected patients or others showing diverse symptoms.

Just a few days before completing two months of work in Jamaica, the brigade of 138 internationalists from the Henry Reeve Contingent prove the appropriateness of their call, after carrying out 6,334 consultations and contributing to the recovery of 38 citizens whose lives were in danger.

The report issued by the diplomatic mission from the largest island in the Antilles acknowledged the gratitude and warm welcoming by the population and authorities of the Ministry of Health and Wellness of Jamaica towards all brigade members.

Over this period, former prime ministers such as Bruce Golding and Percival James Patterson, as well as parliamentarian Lisa Hanna and Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, among other figures of the Jamaican government, highlighted the support and solidarity of Cuba with their country in the face of the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last February, both countries renewed for another three years the Bilateral Agreement on Technical Assistance in Health signed in 2015, to promote specialized care in different areas.
