Cuban Minister of Education arrives in Zimbabwe

Cuban Minister of Education Dr. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, arrived in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, invited by her Zimbabwean counterpart Dr. Lazarus Dokora, to participate in the 3rd International Education Conference in this city, which will take place between the 30 August and September 1, 2017

Officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, as well as Cuba's ambassador to Zimbabwe, Elio Savón Oliva, and other members of the Cuban diplomatic mission met her at the airport.
.Dr. Velázquez Cobiella travels accompanied by Dr. Silvia Navarro, director of the Cuban Central Institute of Pedagogical Research.

During her stay in the southern African country, the Cuban minister will deliver a lecture to the Conference and will hold official talks with the Zimbabwean minister, which should conclude with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two ministries, that would include areas such as: arts, preschool education, science, physical education, and sports.

More than 3200 young people from Zimbabwe have graduated in Cuba as professors, especially in science subjects, and the University of Sciences Education in the City of Bindura (BUSE) was inaugurated in Zimbabwe in order to continue this cooperation. which, from its beginnings, had highly qualified Cuban professors.

With about 92% literacy, Zimbabwe is recognized as the country with the lowest illiteracy rate in Africa.
