Geneva, June 12, 2026. Jesús Otamendiz Campos, Minister of Labor and Social Security, held a pleasant exchange today with the staff of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN in Geneva.
The Cuban official provided detailed information on the actions his Ministry is taking to mitigate the brutal effects that the intensified US blockade and the energy embargo imposed on the country are having on Cuban workers.
He emphasized that the highest priority will always be protecting workers' income and rights, supporting the most vulnerable, and leaving no one behind, no matter how difficult the circumstances.
He explained the extensive consultation process carried out with Cuban workers in preparation for the upcoming adoption of a new Labor Code in the country.
For her part, Ms. Gertrudis Simón Pineda, head of the International Relations Department of the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC), provided an update on the preparations for the 22nd CTC Congress, whose final sessions will be held via videoconference on June 26 and 27, under the slogan "Together We Create."
Among other topics, the Congress will address crucial issues such as the defense of the homeland, actions to boost Cuban production and businesses, the priority tasks of the 2026 government program, and strengthening worker participation and union organization in administrative decisions through the members' assembly.
The CTC has more than two million members affiliated with 18 national unions.
