A leader of the Cuban community in Grenada, Alán Jareño Amil, took part in the Mother’s Day activity organized by Cuba’s state mission in the country. Through the reading of heartfelt words, he paid tribute to Cuban mothers.
In his remarks, Jareño Amil expressed respect and gratitude to mothers, emphasizing that they represent the roots of the homeland and the foundation of future generations. He underscored that the dedication and sacrifice of Cuban mothers have been decisive in national history, from the struggles for independence to contemporary challenges.
This compatriot, who has lived for several years in the Isle of Spice, recalled historic examples of women who shaped Cuba’s identity, such as Mariana Grajales and Leonor Pérez—mothers who encouraged their sons to fight for freedom and who symbolize the strength and dignity of Cuban women. He noted that these figures remain role models for today’s mothers, who continue to instill values of solidarity and resilience.
Jareño Amil also highlighted the importance of honoring mothers in the present, amid the economic and social difficulties faced by the Island as a result of the U.S. blockade. He affirmed that they are the ones who sustain hope and transmit confidence in a better future, even in the most complex moments.
Finally, the community leader stated that the tribute to mothers should not be limited to a commemorative date, but should become a permanent commitment of respect and support. He concluded that Cuban mothers, both within and beyond the Island, are pillars of the nation and examples of strength for the entire Caribbean.
