Dublin. September, 2018. From 11 to 15 September, a delegation of Cuban officials visits the Irish capital, as part of a study visit sponsored by the Cuba-European Union Expert Program, to search about experiences of this country in the export of services and its statistical capture. The delegation consists of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) and the National Bureau of Statistics of Cuba (ONEI) and has been accompanied by Ambassador Hugo René Ramos Milanés.
The MINCEX is represented by Yamila Fernández del Busto, General Director of Economy; Ramón Hernán Rodríguez, director of Planning and Statistical Analysis; Lietsa Peña Pacheco, Director of Exports of Goods and Services; and Marta Cartelle Pozo, professor at the Center for Training on Foreign Trade. The ONEI on the other hand is represented by the Executive Officer Julio César Guerrero Valdés.
The Cuban delegation was assisted by Mrs. Teresa Guillén, Coordinator of the Study Visit of the Program.
According to the subject of study, the Institute of Economic and Social Research (ESRI) was visited, where they learned about the mission of this institution and its research contributions for the performance of Irish export companies. An interesting aspect was to know that in the structure of foreign trade a very high percent of exports come from multinationals based in the Island, so they have studied and put into practice a GNI indicator that tries to separate the statistics of the exports emanated from the multinationals and those from domestic companies, which would allow obtaining more real data. The problems they face are similar to those we face in Cuba, in terms of registering and updating service statistics, since in the case of goods it is simpler to be registered in Customs.
