Suva, January 31. The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, sent a congratulatory message to His Excellency Leonel Rouwen Aingimea, President of the Republic of Nauru, on the occasion of celebrating the 53rd anniversary of the independence of that Pacific Island State.
In his letter, the Cuban Head of State assured his Nauru counterpart that "the occasion is propitious to ratify the willingness to continue expanding relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries".
After dozens of years of colonial rule, including the wartime occupation, determination in the struggle to maintain their identity and their country allowed the Nauruan people to achieve liberation and independence on January 31, 1968.
