Cuban President starts brief working visit to Russia to address priorities on the bilateral agenda.

Havana, May 7th, 2024. - The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will complete a busy work programme in Moscow, from May 7th to 9th, which will include meetings with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and other leaders of that country.

This visit coincides with the May 8th meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the highest-level meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), an important regional economic integration bloc, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Cuba has been an observer state of the EAEU since December 11th, 2020. This will be the first occasion on which the Cuban President will attend the Supreme Council in person.

During his stay in the Russian capital, Díaz-Canel will also attend the military parade and other activities commemorating the 79th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, thus responding to an invitation extended by his Russian counterpart.

The visit also marks the 64th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Russia, two countries with historic ties of friendship that have been deepening and expanding in many areas for the benefit of the development of both peoples.
