Cuban President will not attend the Brics Summit

Havana, October 21, Cuba's President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, informed that he will not attend the Brics summit due to the electrical emergency in the country and the devastation caused by tropical storm Oscar in eastern provinces.

Appearing on national television, the President affirmed that the Caribbean nation will be represented by a delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez.

He pointed out that the event would offer the possibility of holding working meetings with the presidents of Russia, Vadimir Putin, of China Xi Jinping, as well as leaders of Vietnam and other friendly countries.

The Cuban president expressed his confidence that an important part of these events could still be held and that his country's participation will have a significant impact and transcendence in the summit.

He stressed that for Cuba the meeting represents an important opportunity, taking into account the historical relationship the island has with the group and its recent request to become a member of the Brics as a partner country.
