Vientiane October 4, 2022. Between October 2 and 4, the visit of the Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz to the Lao PDR took place, invited by his Lao counterpart. It is the first tour that the high leader does to the Asian region and to this country, with which there are deep historical ties of friendship and brotherhood.
The visit of Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz to Laos constitutes a new milestone and impetus for the expansion and strengthening of cooperation and bilateral relations. This is also confirmed by his counterpart Comrade Phankham Viphavanh who agreed on the importance of further expanding cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Marrero Cruz updated on the Cuba situation and highly appreciated and thanked Lao for its unconditional support for the Cuban Resolution, which calls for an end to the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean island.
Four agreements referring to the areas of Higher Education, Agriculture and Health were signed, and other potential areas of cooperation were analizaed.
The visit of Premier Marrero Cruz to the Asian country had repeated moments of contained emotion. In this sense, the exchanges were held with the general secretary of the CC of the PPRL Thoungloun Sisoulith, the president of the Lao National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane and its vice president Dr. Chaleune Yiapahoer, also president of the Laos-Cuba Friendship Association.
The busy visitor's agenda included other places of socio-economic interest, including the Saysettha Development Zone, nestled in the heart of the capital's new sub-centre.
Similarly, heartfelt tributes were paid before the monument to the unknown soldier and the National Hero José Martí at the Cuba-Laos Friendship School. In this last place, the mai dou tree was planted, as a symbol of the strength and durability of the relations of friendship and affection between both Parties, Governments and peoples, which have withstood the ravages of time and will last forever.
