Cuban Project Wins International Telecommunication Union Award

Geneva, July 10, 2026. In the context of the  World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2026, held in this Swiss city under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Cuban project Online Services Portal Application, developed by the Cuban Telecommunications Company, ETECSA, was awarded the title of “Champion” today.

The award was received by Elio Pérez Pérez, Head of Systems Development at ETECSA, who led the application development project, and Lidia Hidalgo Rodríguez, ETECSA's Commercial Vice President.

The award-winning application brings services closer to people through an agile and accessible digital tool. Customers can manage most telecommunications services via mobile phone or computer, without needing to visit a sales office in person.

This prestigious award recognizes the progress Cuba has already made in developing its own sovereign digital transformation process.

The Cuban project was selected from among hundreds of candidates who submitted proposals and were evaluated by the ITU. It was chosen for its highly significant contribution to the implementation of the agreements adopted at the World Summit on the Information Society.
