Geneva, June 18, 2025. Dr. Vivian Kourí, director of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine, was elected today as Rapporteur for the 48th Meeting of the Joint Coordinating Board of the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, being held in this Swiss city.
This important World Health Organization program is supported by five major organizations, including United Nations agencies and programs, such as UNICEF and UNDP.
The program aims to promote research, decolonize science, and build skills in countries where tropical diseases must be resolved through national efforts.
The program conducts research on vector-borne diseases, such as malaria, dengue, zika, and oropuche, among others, in which Cuba has extensive experience.
