Cuban residents in Ghana demanded an end to the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, the return of the Cuban territory illegally occupied by the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, and respect the right of the Cuban people to choose their own economic, political and social system.
The event had place during the signature of the Final Declaration adopted as afterword of the 5th National Meeting of Cuban Resident in Ghana developed in the city of Tema, with also the participation of children and young descendants.
The Cubans, that also celebrated the Cuban Culture Day, were updated on consular issues. Besides, they received the information about how to carry out the donations for the victims of Hurricane Matthews that affected the Western part of the Cuban territory.
The Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, provided a panoramic of the current state of the relations between Cuba and the U.S., and highlighted as despite of the propaganda, the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the largest island of the Antilles still it is maintainedin full force.
During the activity was renewed the leadership of the Association of Cuban Residents in Ghana. The Dr. Mrs. Yovanna Cobas Pinto was elected as the National Coordinator. The work done for five years by the outgoing Coordinator, Mrs. Yindra Semanat Cutiño, was recognized by the attendees.
The Ambassador of Cuba in his closing remarks reiterated the importance of such meetings and urged the new leadership to continue working on the cohesion of the Cuban residents in Ghana.
