Kingston, Jamaica, October 24th, 2017. Summoned by the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica, more than fifty Cubans residing in Jamaica, members of the solidarity movement and Cuban collaborators in this Caribbean nation, attended the diplomatic mission to celebrate the National Day of Culture, acknowledged as a date that definitely marks the birth of our nation and identity.
The event started with the National Anthem followed by the remarks by Second Secretary Rigoberto Zarza Ross, who highlighted the designation of the date on August 22, 1980, by the Council of Ministers, following a proposal by the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro. The date was created as recognition to our people and with that own vision to make culture the main engine of the social development, a goal that has been achieved.
As part of the celebration, the attendees could enjoy the Cuban movie Esteban that narrates a beautiful and moving story that stresses that the most important thing is to always fight for what people are passionate about and make them feel confident.
The movie was presented as a tribute to the artists and individuals that have battled for their goals and the unknown parents who dedicate everything to bring happiness to their children and make real their dreams.
The exhibition was welcomed by the audience who acknowledged the lessons and message of the movie and also praised the Embassy for the organization of the event that ended with a toast and Cuban music.
