Kingston, Jamaica, 20 May 2019. Convened by the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica "Antonio Maceo Grajales", forty Cubans of all ages, including a 101-year-old lady, gathered last Sunday May 19 at the premises of the Embassy to remind the Cuban National Hero -on the occasion of the 124th anniversary of his fall in combat- and to celebrate the anniversaries of the José Martí Pioneer Organization and the Young Communist League, Mother's Day and the International Children's Day.
Poems by the Cuban Apostle, José Martí, were dedicated to mothers who were also given presents for the celebration of their day. The evening was propitious to acknowledge, with special mentions, a group of women with an outstanding performance in the work of the Association and in the support to the Cuban community in Jamaica.
Five-year old Yeiny Gordon, daughter of a Cuban doctor, played the drums for the audience.
The board of directors of the Association took the opportunity to convene the next Annual Meeting of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica.
Cuban music was felt at the Embassy until late in the evening, while participants danced and amused themselves with multiple games. Kids, meanwhile, fought the sweltering heat in the pool.
In the end, they all joined the "Añoranza por la Conga (Longing for the conga)" by Surcaribe, and closed with a toast to Cuba.
