Rotorua, March 5, 2017.- With the presence of more than a dozen Cuban artists based in the South Pacific, took place the 2017 edition of the Aotearoa Cuba Festival. Enthusiasts and followers of Cuban music in New Zealand gathered in Rotorua, an eminently touristic city famous for its geothermal activity and its innumerable geysers.
The mix of Cuban and local rhythms continued among the distinctive features of this Festival. A delightful session of kapahaka was included in the program, together with the traditional workshops of Afro-Cuban dances, rueda, mambo and cubatón, showcasing a blend of Caribbean and Polynesian flavour.
The cultural gala of Saturday evening was among the most anticipated events. Instructors and disciples of the Cuban dance schools in New Zealand and Australia joined in a colourful show, which came to an end with an exquisite folk dance, that produced the delight of the audience.
The Aotearoa Cuban Festival is organized by the homonymous Trust, a non-profit organization whose mission is to Encourage all sectors of the community to participate in cross-cultural opportunities with the New Zealand and Cuban cultures in all their forms of dance and music.
