Montego Bay, 24 November 2022. Representatives of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, headed by Ambassador Fermín Quiñones and Dr. Yamila de Armas, president of the Cuban Medical Services Marketing Company, and members of the Cuba solidarity movement, paid tribute to the Commander in Chief in the city of Montego Bay.
The tribute began with a minute's silence in honour of Fidel. Afterwards, Dr. Yaneisy Ortiz declaimed the poem "Canto a Fidel" by Carilda Oliver Labra. As a continuation of the cultural moment, a group of Cuban teachers, belonging to the education brigade, sang "La Guantanamera" and danced to the song "Me dicen Cuba".
Dr. Yamila de Armas conveyed the Cuban government's greetings to the Brigade and acknowledged the importance of Fidel's thinking in the Medical Brigades sent by Cuba to different countries and regions of the world. He stressed that "each doctor has an added value that they leave behind; it is the people of Jamaica who will thank them for it".
For his part, Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez outlined the guidance of Fidel's thinking in the work being undertaken. He pointed out that the largest Cuban medical brigade of compensated technical assistance in the world is in Jamaica, which has been thanked by the Jamaican people. Referring to the two brigades, he commented that "teachers cure the soul and doctors cure the body".
