Havana, February 3, 2022.- Officials from the Cuban Foreign Ministry held a discussion this Thursday morning with students from the University of Havana on the 60th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 3447 that formalized the blockade of the USA against Cuba.
In the exchange, Ismara Vargas Walter, director of Legal Affairs and Analysis, of the General Directorate of the United States, together with Jorge Luis Cepero Aguilar and David Ramírez Álvarez, specialists from that directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delved into the history of the blockade, its purposes and the effects it causes in the daily life of each Cuban family.
It transpired in the meeting that the blockade constitutes an act of war and a permanent aggression against Cuba that although it was officially decreed in 1962, its application dates back to the very moment of the revolutionary triumph. This policy is not an abstract concept but rather refers to a series of laws, regulations, coercive measures and arbitrary lists ruthlessly applied by the United States government.
With the essential objective of destroying the Revolution, the blockade seeks to deprive our people of the resources necessary for life and prevent the normal development of the Cuban economy. For 60 years, it has been an essential tool of United States policy toward our country.
