Cubans and Jamaicans pay tribute to Maceo and Che.

Kingston, 14 June 2026. Representatives from the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, the Association of Cuban Residents, the Solidarity Movement and graduates from our country gathered in front of the bust of the Bronze Titan in the Park of Jamaican Heroes to pay tribute to two ‘sons of June and of the Revolution’: Antonio Maceo and Ernesto Guevara de la Serna.

As part of the tribute, the similarities in their actions and thinking were highlighted. The continued relevance of their pro-independence and anti-imperialist ideology was also emphasised, at a time when US imperialism is launching a new offensive against our country, Latin America and the Caribbean.

In her address to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Tania López Larroque, reaffirmed the Cuban people’s support for the words pronounced by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on 6 June 2026: “That is the uncomfortable truth: Cuba will not surrender! Cuba persists and resists! And that persistence is intolerable to the empire! Cuba wants peace. Cuba does not provoke, attack or challenge. We remain committed to fostering a climate of understanding with the United States based on mutual respect, despite our differences, as has been shown to be possible. However, if the homeland is attacked, we will respond in self-defence! And if they try to invade, let there be no doubt: there will be resolute and determined resistance!”

As part of the tribute, the youngest members of the State Mission laid a flowers wreath in front of the bust of Maceo.
