Namibia, November 25th, 2020- On the fourth anniversary of the death of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, Cubans and Namibians attended the primary school that bears his name, in Katutura, a neighbourhood of the capital Windhoek, to lay a wreath. The Ambassador of Cuba, Sidenio Acosta, and other members of the diplomatic mission, the school director, Martha Shilyomunhu, teachers and students, Cuban cooperators, Namibians who are members of solidarity with Cuba and Cubans residing in this country were present.
Ambassador Acosta highlighted the validity of Fidel's revolutionary thought. In the same way, he evoked his contribution to the independence and sovereignty of the peoples of the third world. In this sense, he highlighted the cooperation between the Cuban, Namibian and Angolan troops in the fight against the apartheid regime, which made possible the victory of Cuito Cuanavale, where Fidel played a transcendental role. The Cuban diplomat highlighted the impact of that combat, by promoting the independence of Namibia, securing that of Angola and putting an end to the South African racist regime.
The Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission recalled Fidel's close ties with Sam Nujoma, Founding Father of Namibia, and with the Namibian people in general. He also referred to the special affection that is appreciated towards Fidel and Cuba in Namibia.
In a meeting with part of the group of teachers and assistants of the school, Ambassador Acosta congratulated them for the excellent educational work they do, also thanked them for the daily honoring of the memory of the Commander in Chief.
For her part, the director Martha Shilyomunhu thanked the support for the work of the school of the Cuban Embassy and others present. She also expressed the pride and commitment that the fact that her school bears the name of Fidel Castro represents for her teachers and students.
The “Fidel Castro Ruz” Primary School is located in the Katutura neighborhood, the most disadvantaged of Windhoek, capital of Namibia. Around 1200 children study at the school, from first to seventh grade. Founded in 2007, with only 12 students enrolled, today it is a national reference public educational center
