The Cuban Embassy in Barbados kicked off the day of celebrations for the Centennial of the Birth of our Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz.
In a brief but heartfelt event, with the participation of members of the Cuban State Mission in Barbados, Cuban members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Barbados "Martyrs of Barbados," and Barbadians who graduated in Cuba, we celebrated the 99th anniversary of the birth of our beloved Fidel and the beginning of a series of activities that we will be carrying out throughout the year in Cuba and around the world to commemorate the centennial of his birth.
Various feats of this giant of a thousand battles were recalled, who taught us the path to true independence, how to demand our rights with intelligence and dignity, and how to staunchly defend our sovereignty, our identity, and our nationality.
A protagonist of the Moncada War, he left us the legacy of "History Will Absolve Me," a historic event that constituted the Program of the Cuban Revolution, which remains relevant today. From the Sierra Maestra Mountains and throughout the years of the Revolution, Fidel has been our Commander-in-Chief for all Cubans, and will continue to be so for future generations.
His work and legacy as the leader of the Cuban Revolution transcends the borders of our national territory. Fidel's contributions on the international stage, his vision of the future, and his personal leadership as the architect of our foreign policy not only led Cuba to play a leading role in many global and regional processes, but also established himself as a leader in causes supporting oppressed peoples, advocating for peace and solidarity, and opposing colonialism, neocolonialism, racism, apartheid, and imperialism. National liberation and leftist movements and organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of 77 were nourished and strengthened by the precise actions of our Commander in Chief on the international stage.
Today we remember him with the performance of dances and poems dedicated to him, a source of inspiration for many Cubans who, out of conviction, are determined to move forward and continue his most beautiful and difficult work, our Revolution.
