Cubans residing in Denmark, demand the cessation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba that has caused millionaire losses to the island's economy and constitutes the greatest obstacle to the development of the nation.
On February 7, 1962, the then President of the United States (USA), John F. Kennedy, declared that country's unilateral blockade against Cuba, through the Foreign Aid Law of 1961.
Every day our indignation increases more and more due to the intensification of the blockade and the cruel sanctions adopted by the US with its hostile policy for almost 60 years.
For several decades the General Assembly of the United Nations has condemned this policy and today it has the growing support of many countries in the world. However, the President of the considered world power, ignores this sentence and attributes the right to decide on the lives of 11 million Cubans and their homeland.
The worldwide impact of Covid 19 shows high numbers of infected and deceased, which leave us breathless. Thousands of families on the planet mourn the loss of their loved ones. These are not times to divide us, it is time to unite as human beings and help each other.
This blockade sentences the Cuban people to face inhumanly the consequences of the greatest pandemic in recent times, denying them the acquisition of the necessary means to unite in the fight against this disease.
With a long history in medical cooperation, our country has proven that its health professionals are capable of writing beautiful pages of humanistic and disinterested solidarity. Cuba is a small nation, with few material resources, where not only is the health of our people guaranteed, but with limited material resources we have also used effort to train health personnel for many countries of the world. Some 50,000 Cuban health collaborators provide services in 67 countries. Today our new generations of Galenos, overcome the barriers of danger and Cuba has already sent some 15 brigades, with a total of 593 collaborators, to 2 European countries, Italy and Andorra, two Latin Americans and eleven Caribbean, our professionals becoming faithful heirs of what was expressed by our national hero José Martí when he said: & Cuba is not a pedigree around the world, it is a sister, and when it saves itself, it saves, and works with the authority of such. "
Like all countries, Cuba has to mobilize immense resources to face the Covid pandemic19. But in order to overcome this disease, our country urgently needs to develop all its economic potential, without the innumerable obstacles that the United States government imposes on it.
We Cubans residing in Denmark, with that same authority to be proud children of their homeland, demand from the EU: that they ask the United States to end the blockade against Cuba to fight Covid-19 and with this letter, we call on all NGOs, associations, unions and people of good will, who support us.
