The commemoration of the Day of the Cuban Foreign Service Martyrs salutes on Friday the several attacks to the diplomatic staff and facilities, promoted by the US hostile policy.
On September 11, 1980, diplomat Felix Garcia, accredited to the United Nations, was shot dead by a confessed Cuban terrorist in New York City.
Four decades later, the date recalls a long list of actions against the Cuban diplomatic officials.
On occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel praised the dedication of those who are facing the US policies against Cuba, 'not only in the diplomatic field, but especially on it.'
After commemorating the tribute to Cuban diplomats Jesus Cejas and Crescencio Galañena, murdered in Argentina in August 1976 victims of the Operation Condor, the president praised the victims of state terrorism for their ideals.
According to official figures, more than 1,500 Cubans have been direct victims of state terrorism in several parts of the world.
Cuba's mission to UN remembers murder of Cuban diplomat in New York
Cuba's mission to the UN office commemorates on Friday with sadness and indignation the death 40 years ago of the island's diplomat Felix Garcia, the first foreign representative to the multilateral organization assassinated in the United States.
On September 11, 1980, a member of the anti-Cuban terrorist group Omega 7 opened fire on the 41-year-old diplomat when he was in his car at a traffic light in the New York neighborhood of Queens.
Just that day, Garcia had met with Chilean friends to commemorate Salvador Allende's resistance to the coup by dictator Augusto Pinochet. Pinochet ordered the bombing at La Moneda, Chile's Presidential Palace, with the president and several people inside, on September 11, 1973.
Felix Garcia's murder is part of the long list of terrorist actions against the island promoted by US-based extremist groups, as Ana Silvia Rodriguez, Cuba's alternate permanent representative to the UN, denounced.
During the Virtual Counter-Terrorism Week, held at the UN from July 4 to 10, 2020, the ambassador recalled the long history of violent and hostile actions against her nation, organized in US territory.
