Cubans living in Sweden and representatives of organizations in solidarity with Cuba commemorate the birthdays of Antonio Maceo Grajales and Ernesto Che Guevara.

Stockholm, June 14. An event was held at the Cuban Embassy in Sweden, organized by the association “Cubans for Cuba” and co-sponsored by organizations in solidarity with Cuba, with the aim of celebrating the birthdays of Antonio Maceo and Ernesto Che Guevara.

During her opening remarks, Cuban Consul Laura Moriña Medina emphasized that it is impossible to address the history of Cuba without referring to the figures of Maceo and Che, who left us unsurpassed examples of heroism in different eras. “We say today that Maceo lives on and we want to be like Che because both beat in the resistance of Cuba,” said the Cuban diplomat.

Next, Dr. Inti Peredo, vice president of the Association of Cuban Residents “Cubans for Cuba,” expressed how even in the most difficult contexts, the Cuban people's capacity for resistance persists.

In other news, the organizers of the event created a space for fundraising to purchase medical supplies, which will be sent to Cuba through the “Maletas Solidaridarias” initiative, coordinated by the Swedish-Cuban Friendship Association.

Those present reaffirmed their commitment to help the Cuban people in their ongoing struggle against the unjust economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed by the United States, which seriously undermines the quality of life and well-being of Cubans.
