Cubans Resident in Jamaica condemn Blockade against their Homeland

Kingston, Jamaica, October 14th, 2017. Members of the Association of Cubans Resident in Jamaica Antonio Maceo y Grajales issued a statement to condemn the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government against Cuba for almost 60 years, which continues provoking damages to the Cuban people and hindering the economic development of the country, despite the claims to end it expressed by the overwhelming majority of the international community during 25 years.

The text rejects the “National Security Presidential Memorandum on Strengthening the Policy of the United States toward Cuba”, signed by President Donald Trump on June 16th, 2017, and opposes the derogation of the Presidential Policy Directive “United States-Cuba Normalization”, issued by former president Barack Obama on October 14th, 2016, that acknowledged blockade as an outdated Cold War policy that should be eliminated.

Likewise, the Cuban Residents express their total and unconditional support to Cuba’s Report vs Blockade 2017 to be examined, discussed and voted by representatives for vast majority of the world in the ongoing United Nations General Assembly meeting next November 1st, 2017. “We are certain that this will be the 26th condemnation to blockade”, they stated.

Moreover, the statement highlights the Press Conference by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, and the statement by the Cuban Chancery last October 3rd, 2017, reiterating that the measures announced recently by the Government of the United States, to drastically its diplomatic staff in Cuba and to demand the exit of the majority of the Cuban diplomatic staff in Washington, without concluding research results or evidence of the so called incidents, have an openly political character that only benefits a minority aiming at reversing the advances in the bilateral relations.
